  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    An investigation into supposed monetary mismanagement at the Etihad Stadium was opened in 2018, with that process finally completed in February 2023. An independent hearing into the allegations against City was concluded in December 2024.

    City are still waiting on a verdict, with Pep Guardiola having said: “In one month, I think there will be a verdict and a sentence. After that, we will see my opinion of what happened so far.”

    Various punishments continue to be speculated on.

    According to Football Insider, "European clubs could also submit compensation claims against Man City if they can prove the alleged breaches had a negative impact on them financially". The Blues have won the Champions League, reached another final, a semi-final and four quarter-finals during Guardiola’s reign.

    While rivals are ready to take action against City, Football Insider adds that “lawyers are expected to appeal against any potential punishment after the club have been adamant they haven’t done anything wrong since the charges were handed out two years ago”.
