    WHAT HAPPENED?

Colombia were the surprise package at the Copa America in the United States as they reached the final of the prestigious tournament, however, they lost in heartbreaking fashion to an extra-time winner from Lautaro Martinez. Regardless, Nestor Lorenzo's players like Rios - who plies his club trade for Palmeiras - among others caught the eye of multiple top clubs with a summer move in mind.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Manchester United are one such club that have been impressed by the 24-year-old and sources have relayed to GOAL Brazil that the Red Devils have already made first contact with the central midfielder's representatives. The sources have suggested that Erik ten Hag's side are preparing a £17 million ($21.9m) bid for the Colombian as the Dutchman and INEOS have planned a squad overhaul following a poor 2023/24 season.

  • WHAT'S MORE?

The source has also suggested that Palmeiras are not planning to budge easily despite knowing the value the midfielder holds in the eyes of multiple European giants, with AC Milan also reported to be interested in the talented player. The Alviverde do not want to lose such a key player in the middle of the season and are not open to negotiating.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Earlier in the month, Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira was very clear that the club does not need to make any more sales following the exits of Estevao Willian to Chelsea, Luis Guilherme to West Ham and Endrick to Real Madrid. He told the media: "We’ve already made a lot of money from sales. Now, we need to focus on alternatives within the field."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR RIOS?

It is very likely that Palmeiras will try their best to keep Rios at Allianz Parque for at least the end of this season, however, the Red Devils' significant purchasing power could potentially play a major part in bringing him to Old Trafford this summer.
