  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The 25-year-old was forced off late on in France's 1-0 win over Austria in their Euros opener on Monday night. It was later revealed Mbappe had broken his nose, with the Real Madrid-bound star now being forced to wear a custom mask to protect himself when he returns to the pitch. Before that revelation, however, the French World Cup winner took to X, formerly Twitter, to ask fans for mask ideas - and supporters gleefully replied en masse.

  • WHAT KYLIAN MBAPPE SAID

    Several hours after the match, Mbappe - who was jokingly referred to as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 'Donatello' when he initially joined PSG on loan in 2017, before ex-team-mate Thiago Silva bought him a Michelangelo mask to wear in the changing room - tweeted: "Any ideas for masks 🎭😅 ?"

    @Alexis92_ tweeted a photo of Mbappe wearing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask and wrote: "This one Kylian."

    The good news for France and Mbappe is that the French Football Federation has confirmed that no operation will be required, but he will undergo treatment this week. It remains to be seen if the ex-Monaco star will be available to take on the Netherlands on Friday, and it has even been suggested he could be absent until the quarter-final stage.

    France are next in action on Friday night against the Netherlands before rounding off their group stage campaign against Poland next Tuesday. They currently sit second in their group behind the Netherlands after one round of fixtures.
