  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Carvalho joined Liverpool in 2022 from Fulham but managed just 21 competitive appearances for the club and was offloaded to Brentford two years later in a deal worth £27.5 million ($35m) including add-ons. He has gone on to make 14 appearances for the Bees this season, although just two of those outings have been as a starter and he did not feature at all last time out as Thomas Frank's side drew 0-0 with Everton.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Brentford's draw at Goodison Park continued a poor run of form for the Bees. Frank's side have won just one of their last five Premier League outings and remain winless away from home in the English top flight. Carvalho's dad appears frustrated with the situation and has sent a strong message to his son on social media.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Victor Carvalho posted the following comment on the club's official full-time post after the draw with Everton on Instagram: "Son, you have to leave this club." The comment has since been deleted - as per The Sun.

    WHAT NEXT

It remains to be seen if Carvalho takes his father's advice, however it's worth noting that his dad did previously tell him that he had been impressed by Brentford. Carvalho admitted in the summer: "I’ve been keeping an eye out for Brentford; my dad watched the Benfica [pre-season] game because he’s a massive Benfica supporter and said, ‘Look, Brentford have got a good team!’"
