  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Evanilson was sent off in the 70th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League for a foul on Noussair Mazraoui. The Brazilian was initially shown a yellow card but it was upgraded after a VAR check. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was left furious by the decision, which proved costly for his side. Bournemouth were leading 1-0 at the time but went on to concede a last-gasp equaliser to the struggling Red Devils.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Bournemouth appealed the decision, which has now officially been overturned, leaving supporters angry.

Supporter @merciii69 did not hold back when venting in a post on X: "cheating refs trying to get United out the sh**. corrupt league."

And @Cowden81 hit out at the decision to award a red: "It was farcical he got sent off."

Another supporter, @AddyFi, added: "If we had 11 men for United I’m sure we would have had an extra 2 points. VAR have most probably cost us Europe."

Cherries fan @realstumcbride took aim at the PGMOL: "If we miss Europe by 2 points the @FA_PGMOL must be held accountable. They screwed us once and got us relegated, and now may see us miss out on Europe."

Another user, @thecherries, wanted more than just the red card rescinded: "Any apology from @FA_PGMOL?"

  • WHAT THE FA SAID

A statement from the FA read: "An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Evanilson's three-match ban following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal. The AFC Bournemouth forward was sent off during the Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Sunday, 27 April, for serious foul play."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The dropped points could see Bournemouth miss out on a place in Europe after an impressive season. The Cherries now set in 10th place in the Premier League with just four games left to play. An eight-placed finish will be enough to secure a spot in next season's UEFA Conference League, provided Crystal Palace do not beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
