'I was a bit confused' - Cole Palmer admits to being baffled by President Donald Trump's unexpected presence on trophy podium as Chelsea lifted Club World Cup

With the president bizarrely forming part of the celebrations on the podium, skipper James looked slightly bemused while Palmer was supposedly seen muttering: “What’s he doing?”

Speaking to reporters after the game, Palmer said: "To be honest, it was quite loud. I couldn't hear too much. He just congratulated me and the team for lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment. I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yeah."

Palmer starred with a brace and an assist for Joao Pedro as the Premier League giants scored three goals in the first half and thrashed European champions PSG to lift their second trophy of the 2024-25 campaign.

Enzo Maresca's side will now enjoy a well-earned break before they return to action next month. The club will play a couple of friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan before kicking off the 2025-26 campaign formally on August 17 with their season opener against Crystal Palace.
