  • WHAT HAPPENED?

FIFA’s expanded global gathering, which brings some of the best teams on the planet together, is heading to the United States. Lionel Messi will form part of that party as he currently represents MLS side Inter Miami.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

There was talk at one stage of Ronaldo joining his eternal rival in Florida and representing the same side for the first time in their record-shattering careers. No deal will be done there, with CR7 still on the books of Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It is now being suggested that the ex-Manchester United superstar could link up with another Premier League team on a short-term basis. Chelsea were credited with interest in Ronaldo when the Todd Boehly-led ownership took control at Stamford Bridge in 2022.

    WHAT FLORENT MALOUDA SAID

Former Blues winger Florent Malouda is not convinced that a possible deal for the Portuguese GOAT should be assessed. The Frenchman has told Racing Tipster: “I remember when the owners took over, they were assessing the possibility of signing him.

“It would be more like a marketing and media coup than anything, really, in terms of sports logic, something that makes sense for the team.

“It would be difficult to integrate him into the team, it would put pressure on the manager. It depends if you’re looking at other metrics, or if you want to help the team in the long term, and to keep stability in the squad.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR CRISTIANO RONALDO?

Ronaldo’s ability remains beyond question, as he is still going strong and scoring goals in the Middle East, while Chelsea are in the market for a prolific No.9. A remarkable agreement does, however, appear unlikely as CR7 is left watching on from afar this summer.
