The Cowboys, meanwhile, aren't exactly in pristine shape either. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has made significant progress in recovering from his ankle injury and has a chance to suit up against the Commanders this week, while Kavontae Turpin (foot) and rookie tackle Ajani Cornelius (knee) are also questionable. Linebacker Jack Sanborn is working through concussion protocol, and promising pass rusher Marshawn Kneeland is dealing with an ankle problem. On top of that, Jonathan Mingo remains shelved on injured reserve, and corner Caelen Carson, though eligible to return, hasn't yet been activated. 

Dallas, meanwhile, has shown flashes of dominance on offense but hasn’t always been consistent, though their 29.6 points per game average suggests they can light up the scoreboard when they’re in rhythm. Defensively, however, the Cowboys have been leaking points, giving up 30.6 per game through six weeks. 

Dak Prescott remains the engine of the offense, piling up 1,617 passing yards and tossing 13 touchdowns on 164 completions. In the run game, Javonte Williams has been effective, racking up 476 yards and five scores on 92 carries. George Pickens has emerged as Prescott's top target, putting together an impressive 525 yards and six touchdowns on just 32 receptions.

Star wideout Terry McLaurin has now missed three games in a row, and fantasy football managers are awaiting signs of a return, while defensive disruptors Dorance Armstrong (hamstring) and Eddie Goldman (illness) are also on the fence. Adding to the uncertainty, Noah Brown is nursing a groin strain, and linebacker Kain Medrano finds himself on the injury list due to what's being called a "coach's decision" — a curious designation that leaves his status murky at best.

Washington's offense has been serviceable but far from explosive, putting up an average of 26.3 points per contest. On the defensive side, they're conceding around 21 points per game, keeping them competitive but leaving little margin for error. 

Jayden Daniels has been the spark under center, coming off a solid performance with 211 passing yards and three touchdowns against Chicago. On the ground, Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been the primary workhorse, eclipsing the 300-yard mark through six outings. In the passing game, Deebo Samuels has been a go-to weapon, hauling in 34 receptions for 315 yards and finding the end zone four times.

Cowboys vs Commanders Fantasy Football

There's no sugarcoating it — Jayden Daniels (24.0 projected Week 7 fantasy points) has taken a noticeable step back from his sensational rookie campaign. He hasn't been outright bad, but that spark, the one that lifted the Commanders to several surprise wins in 2024, just hasn't been there. This Washington team isn't built to carry him; it's built to be carried by him. Unless Daniels rediscovers that MVP-level form, the postseason will remain a pipe dream. Still, there’s no better chance for a rebound than facing a shaky Cowboys defense that's struggled to stop anyone. Maybe this Thursday night turns into his long-overdue coming-out party.

Meanwhile, Jacory Croskey-Merritt (13.7 projected fpts) might not have lit up the scoreboard last week, but his usage told the real story. The young back dominated snaps, logging a season-high 66% share and taking 17 of the team's 18 rushing attempts — clear "lead-back" territory. He even chipped in a catch for seven yards. The numbers may not have popped yet, but the opportunity is there, and softer matchups are on the horizon. As for Deebo Samuel (10.3 projected fpts), it was obvious on Monday night that he wasn't quite himself. Playing through that heel issue, he posted season lows across the board, a frustrating reminder that "active" doesn't always mean "healthy."

On the opposite sideline, Dak Prescott (22.0 projected fpts) is in pure command of his offense. The veteran quarterback is leading the NFL in pass attempts, ranks second in both passing yards and touchdowns, and sits fourth among fantasy QBs overall. With CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson all in his arsenal, and Lamb expected back from injury — Prescott looks poised to keep this career year rolling.

Javonte Williams (24 projected fpts) continues to be the heartbeat of this Cowboys backfield, ranking fourth in rushing yards leaguewide despite a rare off day in Week 6 against Carolina. Thirteen carries for just 29 yards won't cut it, but given his workload and Dallas’ explosive offense, a bounce-back feels inevitable. Expect the Cowboys to re-establish the run early and often against a Washington front that's been anything but consistent.

And then there's George Pickens (10.6 projected fpts) — the touchdown machine. With six scores and five straight top-20 fantasy finishes, he's been one of the most reliable wideouts in the game. Still, with CeeDee Lamb returning to command his usual share of targets, Pickens may see a slight dip in volume, though given how electric he’s been, benching him would still be a bold move.

Cowboys vs Commanders Game Predictions

Neither squad has been particularly impressive so far this season, but the Cowboys get the nod in this matchup. Returning to AT&T Stadium should give Dallas a much-needed boost, as they tend to deliver their sharpest performances in front of the home crowd. That home-field comfort, paired with the chance to snap out of their recent skid, sets the stage for a bounce-back effort.
