Green Bay Packers vs Washington Commanders NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

The Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers both head into Week 2 with perfect 1-0 records, setting the stage for a primetime showdown on Thursday Night Football.

Jordan Love and the Packers made light work of the Detroit Lions in their opener, racing out to a 27-6 advantage before conceding a late, meaningless score. The victory not only showcased Green Bay's offensive rhythm but also pushed Matt LaFleur’s remarkable home record to 27 games above .500 since taking the reins in Green Bay.

Washington also started its campaign on the right foot, knocking off the New York Giants 21-6 in a divisional tilt. The spotlight now shifts to second-year signal-caller Jayden Daniels, who tossed a touchdown in Week 1 and carries the hopes of guiding the Commanders back into the NFC title conversation this season.

Green Bay Packers vs Washington Commanders roster & injury news

Green Bay Packers team news

Green Bay walked into Sunday’s divisional clash with more questions than answers, carrying a lengthy injury list that left their lineup in flux. Safety Zayne Anderson and corner Nate Hobbs are both nursing knee issues, stretching a secondary that already had its hands full against Detroit’s aerial attack. Up front, defensive disruptors Micah Parsons and Barryn Sorrell are managing back and knee problems, potentially limiting the team’s bite in the trenches. On the offensive side, wideouts Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams are all banged up with lower-body concerns, leaving Jordan Love short of reliable targets. With a Thursday turnaround looming, the Week 2 injury sheet could be just as crowded.

Despite being on a snap count, Parsons still made his presence felt. Jared Goff never lost track of him, as the star defender pressured him into an early dump-off on Detroit’s first three-and-out, blew past Penei Sewell to help force the interception by Reed, and even factored into a sack shared with Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness.

The offensive line also took a beating. Zach Tom (hip) and Aaron Banks (ankle) both exited, with Darian Kinnard and Jordan Morgan stepping in late. Meanwhile, reserve lineman Brenton Cox Jr. left with a groin issue.

With so little recovery time before Thursday night, the Packers will be relying on next-man-up mentality.

Injury Report: Cornerback Nate Hobbs, who had been listed as questionable, didn't play after undergoing knee surgery during training camp. Cornerback Bo Melton (shoulder), defensive lineman Brenton Cox (groin), offensive tackle Zach Tom (hip) and guard Aaron Banks (ankle) left in the second half.

Washington Commanders team news

Seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt has quickly become something of a folk hero among Commanders supporters and fantasy football diehards after flashing all summer, and in Week 1, he delivered on the hype.

The rookie back powered Washington's ground game with 82 yards and a score, helping lift the Commanders to a 21-6 season-opening triumph over the New York Giants in front of a packed home crowd.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. Jayden Daniels, Croskey-Merritt, and the offense did enough to get across the line, but the passing game still showed signs of rust. Daniels was steady if unspectacular, throwing for 233 yards and a touchdown while completing 19 of 30 passes. He also showcased his legs, scrambling for 68 yards. Drops, however, were an issue, even the dependable Zach Ertz and rookie wideout Jaylin Lane let catchable balls slip through their hands.

The bright spot came from new arrival Deebo Samuel, whose chemistry with Daniels already looks promising. The ex-49er hauled in seven catches for 77 yards, both team-highs, and capped off the win with a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown that put the game to bed.

With a short turnaround before heading to Lambeau Field for a Thursday night clash with Green Bay, Washington won’t have much time to tidy things up but they've already shown flashes of a dangerous offense when everything clicks.

Injury Report: Safety Daniel Thomas injured his hand in the first quarter, and cornerback Terrion Arnold injured his groin in the third quarter.

Packers vs Commanders head-to-head record

The Lions had walked out of Lambeau with victories in each of the past three seasons, but this time around their hopes fizzled quickly, undone by a wave of offseason shakeups that left them struggling to find their footing.

As for the Packers and Commanders, this matchup carries plenty of history. The two sides have squared off 40 times, including three postseason battles, with Green Bay holding the edge at 22 wins. Washington isn’t far behind with 17 victories of their own, while the rivalry also features a lone stalemate on the ledger.

Packers vs Commanders Fantasy Football

Fantasy managers will want to circle a handful of names from both sides ahead of this Thursday night clash, with Green Bay's playmakers carrying a slight edge thanks to Lambeau advantage and early-season momentum.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love (16.8 projected fpts for Week 2) remains a serviceable QB2 after a confident Week 1 showing, though Washington's stingy defense poses a real challenge. The true must-start in Green Bay's lineup is Josh Jacobs (13.7), who anchors the offense and profiles as a volume-heavy RB1. Out wide, Jayden Reed (6.3)and Romeo Doubs (6.3) both offer WR3/flex potential in what should be a fairly balanced attack.

For Washington, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels (21.6 projected fpts for Week 2) is a fascinating dual-threat option but should be viewed as a mid-tier QB2 against a Packers defense that dominated Detroit. The safer plays are in the backfield and receiving corps — Austin Ekeler (7.6) is locked in as an RB1 given his workload and versatility, while Terry McLaurin (9.6) and Deebo Samuel (7.8) bring WR1 and WR2 ceilings as the go-to targets in the passing game. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz (4.9) is a steady, plug-and-play TE option.

Fantasy takeaways:

  • Roll with Josh Jacobs as your lead RB, with Reed and Doubs as useful supporting pieces.
  • On Washington’s side, Ekeler, McLaurin, and Samuel should be locked into starting lineups.
  • Treat Love and Daniels as risk/reward QB2 plays in tough matchups.
  • Ertz offers consistent TE value.
  • Both defenses are fades this week in what’s shaping up to be an offensive showcase.Detroit Lions v Green Bay PackersGetty Images

Packers vs Commanders Game Predictions

Green Bay's defense wasted no time making a statement in Week 1, overwhelming Jared Goff with four sacks and snatching an interception for good measure. Washington found the end zone three times in their opener, but the offense didn’t exactly bully a Giants defense known for its aggressive pass rush.

The Commanders should keep this one competitive, but the Packers’ defense was easily the standout group of the weekend, bottling up one of the NFL’s most explosive attacks and limiting Detroit to just 13 points, only six of those coming before garbage time. Jayden Daniels has more firepower around him than last season, but the real concern lies in Washington’s ground game up against Green Bay's relentless front.

The Packers completely shut down Detroit’s rushing attack, giving up only 46 yards on 22 attempts. David Montgomery was stifled to 2.3 yards per carry, while Jahmyr Gibbs fared even worse at 2.1. If Green Bay repeats that kind of dominance in the trenches, Daniels may be forced to shoulder the load through the air, and that could be asking a lot against this defense.
