World Cup Betting: France 9/2 to be crowned champions after Mbappe masterclass against Argentina

If there is to be a better game in the World Cup Round of 16 than France's 4-3 win over Argentina then punters will be in for a treat.

Les Blues are now 9/2 (5.50) to win the tournament having seen off Jorge Sampaoli's side in an end-to-end thriller to kick-off the knockout stages.

For all the headlines about Lionel Messi in the build up to this tie, the star performance came from Kylian Mbappe. The 19-year-old earned the penalty that put France ahead then notched a second half double himself in a near flawless display.

The forward’s blistering pace was simply too much for an ageing Argentina side to handle and France ruthlessly exposed the South Americans time and again after the break.

Sergio Aguero gave his side a glimmer of hope in stoppage time but Les Blues were able to see the game out by a 4-3 scoreline.

Stunning long-range strikes from Angel Di Maria and Benjamin Pavard punctuated what was a thrilling encounter but in the end it was the Euro 2016 runners up who had the clinical edge and will continue their World Cup journey.

Mbappe is now on three goals for the tournament and dabblebet go 25/1 (26.0) that he claims the top scorer prize, having ensured his side will line-up in the quarter-finals against either Uruguay or Portugal.

Antoine Griezmann was the benefactor of that opening penalty and the Atletico Madrid forward is priced at 20/1 (21.0) to finish as the competition's leading marksman, having moved onto two goals overall.

France stuttered in attack during the group stage but their display in the final third will be a warning shot to any of their future opponents - although there are still plenty of questions to answer defensively.

The bookmakers still believe Brazil are the team to beat at 7/2 (4.50) ahead of their clash with Mexico in the round of 16.
