WATCH: The numbers behind Monaco's historic title triumph

Monaco did it on Wednesday. European football’s great entertainers are Ligue 1 champions.

Seventeen years after their last league triumph, the title is theirs. And they’ve done it in some style

The Principality club secured a historic Ligue 1 title with a 2-0 defeat of St-Etienne that took them to 92 points – ensuring they will end the campaign with the second-best points tally in Ligue 1 history.

Leonardo Jardim’s young, dynamic and free-scoring side have charmed the continent this term and are now French football’s highest scoring team in over half a century with 104 league goals.

Moreover, only Barcelona have outscored Monaco across Europe’s top five leagues this season. But while the majority of the Catalan club’s goals have been hit by their attacking trio, Monaco have spread the goals out among their entire squad.

Six Monaco players have more than eight league goals to their name this season, which includes a remarkable return to form for Colombia international Radamel Falaco, who has fired 21 of them.

Teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring on Wednesday, becoming the youngest player (18 years, 147 days) ever to manage 15 goals in a single season in Europe’s top five leagues.
