The right back will help solidify the Sounders' back line, and is also expected to contribute to the club's attack on the wing and in midfield

The Seattle Sounders have announced the signing of Dutch right back Kelvin Leerdam from Vitesse.

Seattle used targeted allocation money (TAM) to complete the signing of Leerdam, who will be eligible to compete in the league from July 10 when the MLS summer transfer window opens.

Talking Points: New era begins in San Jose

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career in his native country, making over 180 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord and Vitesse.

“He has a certain way that he wants to play and it fits what we were looking for as well,” said Sounders sporting director Chris Henderson told the club's website. “With the style that we have, with our outside backs getting a great number of touches each game, it’s an important position for our squad.”

Leerdam was born in Suriname, but represented the Netherlands at the U-19 and U-21 level. He has yet to be capped for the senior side.
