Sheffield United have beaten Premier League clubs in the race to sign Ilkeston starlet Che Adams, Goal has learned.
Newcastle and Sunderland were among five sides to have a bid accepted by the non-league club this week, but the 18-year-old will now move to Bramall Lane on loan ahead of completing a permanent move in January.
The Blades have been engulfed in a media firestorm this week after allowing Ched Evans, a convicted rapist, to resume training after serving his prison sentence.
A number of sponsors, plus prominent ambassadors including Great Britain Olympic hero Jessica Ennis, have threatened to remove their support for the Yorkshire club if the striker is given a contract.
The arrival of Adams, however, would bolster the League One club's attacking options.
Adams, who has scored nine goals in the Northern Premier League this season, is a pacey forward who had also attracted concrete interest from Huddersfield Town, Peterborough and Crewe.
Celtic, Rangers and Southampton had also kept tabs on Adams, whose contract with the Midlands club was due to expire at the end of the season.
