Santander's way of helping young female footballers achieve their dreams

As women’s football continues to grow in stature, Santander is helping young female footballers to achieve their sporting dreams through the Santander female football scholarship scheme.

The initiative promotes the education of young athletes, helping 1,000 female footballers to date, between 16 and 20 as they strive to earn scholarships at universities in the United States.

The scheme has already garnered success; Regina Fiabema, originally from Tromsø, Norway, now going from strength-to-strength in New York, is realising her potential.

“I’ve travelled to places I’ve never been. I’ve met people I never would have met and also got a scholarship for playing football.

“Now I have the opportunity to do what I always believed I can do.”

The same rings true for Jimena Cabrero, a budding young striker from Spain determined to make the most of her opportunity in Atlanta.

“It’s so exciting because you are playing in a country that is a leading example for women’s football.”

Jimena Cabrero

“Football gives you so many opportunities. With effort and persistence you can achieve everything.”
