WHAT HAPPENED? The Dutch international suffered the setback in late September, and back then it was reported he would be out for six weeks, though there were hopes that be back sooner. Ahead of El Clasico on Saturday, Spanish outlet Sport claim the 26-year-old will not be fit for this clash between first-place Madrid and third-positioned Barcelona.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: While losing the former Ajax star for the Madrid game is a blow, rushing him back could leave him on the sidelines for an extended period. Xavi's side are still unbeaten this season, so they are managing without the midfielder.
