Santiago Solari saw his side suffer a shock defeat at the hands of Eibar last weekend but their Catalan rivals, placed second in La Liga, failed to get the better of Atletico Madrid on the same day, leaving a five-point margin between the two.

However, Los Blancos will be wise to not expect an easy test in the shape of Valencia. Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side have won three of their last four games, losing only to Serie A leaders Juventus in the Champions League.

Los Che sit in the lower half of the Liga table however, after an underwhelming start to the season like Madrid; which of them will be fired up in the capital for the points?

Two emphatic goals in the Italian capital have at least ensured Real Madrid are delivering the goods abroad as Los Blancos downed Roma to put themselves in pole position to defend their Champions League crown.

Now however, Santiago Solari returns to domestic matters where he hopes his side can offer a response after their chastening 3-0 loss at the hands of Eibar a week ago.

On that occasion Madrid looked sluggish and unresponsive, a shell of their glorious self – and the Argentine will be expecting his superstar squad to make a statement when they host Valencia.

Marcelino’s side have only lost to Juventus in their last four games, going toe-to-toe this week with the Serie A side for most of their encounter though; they will have no intention of making it easy for their hosts.

Led by prolific Frenchman Kevin Gameiro up front, Los Che are not short of their own attacking flair, and though Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema look to have put their goal droughts to bed, concern may still linger over their conversion rate in front of the net.
