Musiala realises 'childhood dream' as Bayern Munich youngster makes Germany debut

Jamal Musiala is “very proud” to have made his senior debut for Germany, with the 18-year-old playmaker stepping off the bench in a 2022 World Cup qualifying clash with Iceland.

The Bayern Munich youngster was handed 11 minutes of competitive action by Joachim Low in that encounter as he replaced Kai Havertz in a comfortable 3-0 win for Die Mannschaft.

That outing allowed the talented teenager to line up alongside a number of seasoned performers that he is using as inspiration in a bid to become an established star in his own right.

Germany are able to call upon the promising midfielder after seeing him make a big career call at a very young age.

Musiala was eligible to represent Nigeria and England, but has pledged his allegiance to the country of his birth.

The Three Lions had been hoping to see him choose a different path, having turned out for them at youth level, but their advances were knocked back.

The bigger picture

Musiala boasts the potential to be a mainstay in the Germany set-up for many years to come.

He has already become the youngest player to represent Bayern in the Bundesliga, is their youngest goalscorer and the youngest performer to find the target in a Champions League fixture – with all of those marks hit at 17 years of age.

A long-term contract has been signed at the Allianz Arena, with that agreement set to keep his considerable potential in Munich until 2026.
