Goals in either half from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial secured the points for United, with the win taking the club a single point behind local rivals Manchester City in fifth and extending their unbeaten league run to 16 matches.

The Red Devils are now 203 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and 353 over fierce rivals Liverpool, with Tottenham and Everton pulling up the rear.

It was also United's 599th win in the Premier League era, meaning they will become the first team to reach the 600 mark if they beat Bournemouth at home on March 4.

Mata has now scored in successive Premier League games for Man Utd for the first time since September 2015, while Martial has been involved in more league goals for his side than any other player since his debut.
