Anthony Martial has seen his form and future at Manchester United questioned on a regular basis this season, but he was back in the groove against Watford.
The France international can frustrate at times, with his obvious talent not always put to the best use. He boasts pace and power in abundance, as well as a keen eye for goal.
United are looking for him to combine those attributes on a more consistent basis and deliver match-altering displays week in, week out.
Jose Mourinho saw the 21-year-old put in a performance of that calibre in a 2-0 victory over Watford at Old Trafford, as he grabbed his seventh goal of the season.
The Red Devils coaching staff and fan base were not the only ones to be singing Martial’s praises after that success either, with the highly-rated forward earning a first inclusion of the 2016-17 campaign in the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team of the Week – much to his delight.
Martial’s effort against the Hornets was his first in four outings and only his second of 2017.
He has, however, looked brighter in recent weeks than he did during a testing opening to the season and will be planning to kick on from this point.
Mourinho is also hoping that a spark can be rekindled, having talked up Martial’s showing on Saturday.
He told MUTV: "I think he is still missing a bit of his confidence. I kept shouting at him to attack the defender and go to the one-on-one as he needs that confidence but he's working very well.
“Anthony needs to feel that I am looking at him and that I know what he did in training and the effort he put in. So I gave him his chance and he played well. He had a good game for me."
