Kane breaks August hoodoo for Tottenham after 1065 minutes

Harry Kane has recorded his first Premier League goal in the month of August, with the Tottenham striker finding the target at the 15th attempt after a drought of 1065 minutes.

Remarkably, for a man with two Golden Boots to his name, the 25-year-old has been a notoriously slow starter down the years.

A failure to find the target in the opening weeks of any given campaign has been a serious monkey on his back.

Kane is, however, now up and running after finding the target in a meeting with Fulham.

There were 77 minutes on the clock by the time the England captain finally found a way through in a London derby date at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs were already 2-1 in front by that stage, with Lucas Moura and Kieran Trippier netting either side of an effort from Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Kane was teed up for his big moment by Erik Lamela, who sprung Spurs out on the counter.

A proven goalscorer required only a couple of touches to work his way into space and drill low into the bottom corner.

Kane recorded a personal best 40 goals across all competitions last season, with that haul taking him past 100 in the Premier League.

He was beaten to the Golden Boot by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, though, so will have his eyes on that prize again in 2018-19.
