Harry Kewell confirmed as Crawley Town manager

Former Socceroos forward Harry Kewell has been unveiled as manager of English League Two club Crawley Town.

Having left his role as Under 23 coach at Watford last month, Kewell will take on his first senior managerial role with Crawley next season.

The former Liverpool and Leeds winger will replace Englishman Dermot Drummy, who was sacked after just a year in charge at Crawley.

In the just completed 2016-17 campaign, the Red Devils finished 19th in the 24-team English fourth-tier.

"During his interview Harry showed us great passion - that's need to make this team move onwards," Crawley's director of football Selim Gaygusuz said in a statement.

Kewell will be presented to media for the first time in his new role on Friday at the English League Two side after spending this week in Russia to promote the 2017 Confederations Cup.

The 38-year-old Australian, who had stints playing in the A-League with Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart, was linked with Newcastle Jets before Ernie Merrick took over at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Kewell played 56 times for Australia and scored 17 goals.
