Manchester United v Southampton Betting Special: Unstoppable Ibrahimovic to shine at Wembley once more

Having struck twice against the Saints earlier this season, Al Hain-Cole expects United's top scorer to prove the hero for Mourinho's men once again

Having scored four goals in four domestic cup finals during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be hoping to prove himself as Manchester United’s man for the big occasion in Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Southampton.

Top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions, the 35-year-old is Paddy Power’s 7/2 (4.50) favourite to open the scoring in his game at Wembley for the Red Devils, and available at even odds (2.00) to strike anytime, as he did in the Community Shield against Leicester earlier this season.

Considering he also struck twice against this opposition in August’s Premier League clash, Ibrahimovic actually seems like good value at even money (2.00) to prove too strong once again for a defence that has conceded 10 times in the last four games and is missing the influential Virgil van Dijk.

After rejecting talk of a move away from Old Trafford in midweek, Wayne Rooney can be backed at 8/5 (2.60) to offer a reminder of his own goal-scoring prowess, although a place in the squad is not guaranteed due to his recent injury lay-off.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan also struggling for fitness, Marcus Rashford 8/5 (2.60) , Anthony Martial 2/1 (3.00) and Juan Mata 11/4 (3.75) will fight it out for supporting roles to Ibrahimovic in attack.

At the other end of the pitch, new signing Manolo Gabbiadini is on offer at 12/5 (3.40) to enhance his burgeoning reputation by adding to his three goals in two games with a high profile strike in the final.

The Italian’s fine start to life in England has already seen him score just one goal fewer than fellow striker Jay Rodriguez, who is priced at 11/4 (3.75) to make himself a hero at Wembley.

Having scored the winning goal in the Saints’ 1-0 semi-final victory at Anfield, Shane Long is also available at 11/4 (3.75) to get on the scoresheet for the fifth game in eight, while Nathan Redmond is a 7/2 (4.50) shot to strike from the wing.
