Manchester United travel to neighbours Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday and have a mountain to climb if they are to reach the final.
After losing the first leg 3-1 at Old Trafford, with the now-injured Marcus Rashford scoring their only goal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are out at 28/1 (29.0) with bet365 to overturn that deficit either in normal time or via penalties.
Although the Red Devils claimed a surprise 2-1 win the last time these two sides met at the Etihad Stadium back in December, a repeat of that result would not be enough to see United through to the showpiece at Wembley.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked his players to remember that memorable night last March," said Steve Freeth of bet365.
“However, they’ll have to do it without the player who secured their passage against PSG, the same influential forward who played a big part in their recent league win at the Etihad - Marcus Rashford.”
Rashford has four goals in eight appearances against City and no other Red Devil has scored against their neighbours more times since the England forward made his debut for United in 2016.
Anthony Martial has scored at the Etihad on each of his last two visits there and will surely be the focal point of Solskjaer’s attack, with bet365 going 7/4 (2.75) that Frenchman repeats the trick here.
GettyAs well as offering 28/1 (29.0) on United to stun their rivals and qualify for the final, bet365 make it 15/2 (8.50) that the Red Devils win by any scoreline.
A win by exactly two goals for Solskjaer’s side would take the game straight into penalties, with away goals not counting and no extra time if the aggregate scores are level, and that is 5/1 (6.0) with the online bookmaker.
Both teams are available at 33/1 (34.0) to qualify on penalties and United can be backed at 40/1 (41.0) to win by three or more goals against City for the first time since February 1995.
Meanwhile, Man City are available at just 3/10 (1.30) to win the match and qualify for the final for the third season in a row.
