Betting Special: Will Sturridge star for England again?

Having been withdrawn at half-time as substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge came on to each find the net in the late victory over Wales, Harry Kane looks set to lose his place in England’s starting line-up for Monday’s clash against Slovakia.

With fatigue allegedly affecting the Premier League top scorer’s performances in two fruitless matches in France, bet365 have priced him at 9/2 (5.50) to break the deadlock at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and 15/8 (2.88) to strike anytime. Those odds make little appeal given his form and the likelihood of several changes being made to the starting line-up which took to the field in the opening two games.

In contrast, a lively display that saw him set up one goal before grabbing a late winner looks to have earned Sturridge a place in Roy Hodgson’s starting XI, with the manager describing him as “a special player.”

Seemingly fresher than Kane after another injury-stricken season that saw him hit form with eight goals in his final 12 starts of the campaign for Liverpool, the 26-year-old looks far better value for those same 15/8 (2.88) anytime odds to prove the hero once again.

Also in fantastic shape after hitting nine goals in his last 11 matches for club and country, Vardy also has a strong case for inclusion ahead of Kane and looks a tempting proposition at 15/8 (2.88) to find the back of the net this time out.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s appearance from the bench in Lille further underlined Hodgson’s embarrassment of riches in attack, and the Manchester United youngster is available at 21/10 (3.10) to grab a first competitive goal for the Three Lions.

In contrast, opposite number Jan Kozak looks rather reliant on the creative spark of Marek Hamsik at the other end of the pitch, with the Napoli man his team’s 15/4 (4.75) favourite to get on the scoresheet after a fantastic strike in last week’s win over Russia.

Besides him, Willem II striker Adam Nemec can be backed at 4/1 (5.00) to score just a fourth goal in his last 15 for the national team, while fellow striker Michal Duris is also priced at 4/1 (5.00) to add to his modest record of four goals in 28 caps.
