Bale sets new Euro record with stunning Wales opener

The Real Madrid ace got his nation off to a flyer against Slovakia, setting a new landmark in the process

Gareth Bale has set a new record after opening the scoring in Wales’ Euro 2016 clash against Slovakia.

The Real Madrid star scored a superb free-kick in the first half to get Chris Coleman’s side off to a flying start.

And in doing so, Bale goes down in history as the first British player to score from a direct free-kick at a European Championship.

The goal was also Wales’ first ever shot on target at a European Championship.
