Arsenal on best home run in 12 years with Tottenham victory

Arsenal may not have been at their best too often over the last season and a half, but nobody can fault their ability to pick up points in front of their own fans.

First-half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexandre Lacazette ensured Arsene Wenger's men took bragging rights in Saturday's north London derby against Tottenham.

And the 2-0 win set a 12-year best for the Gunners on home turf.

The Emirates Stadium has bore witness to 11 consecutive Arsenal victories in the Premier League, the highest number since inauguration.

Not since 2005, when Arsenal triumphed in 12 straight games at Highbury, has Wenger experienced such consistency from his troops at home.

Failure to reach the Champions League last season had led Wenger's place on the bench to be questioned, but he may now draw strength from Saturday's win.

Arsenal have never failed to secure at least fourth place in a season where they have downed their rivals at home, suggesting that the Champions League might be returning to the Emirates in 2018.
