Wrexham cruise into FA Cup third round! Ollie Palmer on target as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's team book Shrewsbury date with comfortable win over Yeovil

Wrexham scored the opening goal after just 11 minutes, as Palmer fired home after a cross was parried away by Yeovil goalkeeper Joe Day. The Red Dragons then had to deal with an injury scare at the next stoppage, as Aaron Hayden limped off and was replaced by James Jones.

Yeovil almost had a stunning equaliser on the stroke of half-time, as Jordan Young sent a 30-yard free-kick against the post, with Mark Howard beaten. Instead, Wrexham added a second before the interval, as Andy Cannon slammed a half-volley at goal, and it squirmed under the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Day.

The Red Dragons remained firmly in control for the second half, and comfortably secured their progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup, as Sam Dalby added a third in stoppage time.

Palmer's goal broke the deadlock and allowed Wrexham the chance to keep the ball and move it across the pitch with some real zip. Yeovil could barely get into the game from that point, beyond a free-kick that hit the post. Without the striker's intervention, one has to think this might have turned into a frustrating evening.

Day in the Yeovil goal had a dreadful game. First, he parried a straightforward cross to the feet of Palmer to score the opener, and then he let Cannon's strike squirm under his hand for Wrexham's second. Both goals were more than preventable and while he can have no complaints with Dalby's final goal, which came from a defensive error, it was overall a poor display from the Yeovil 'keeper.

Wrexham have booked their spot in the third round, where they will play Shrewsbury Town. While Shrewsbury are in League One, one has to think Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side will be confident of progressing, and potentially facing a Premier League giant in the fourth round.
