What is Wenger's record like at Old Trafford, Anfield & opposition Premier League grounds?

Arsene Wenger is preparing for his final visit to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager after recently announcing he will be leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer.

During his near 22-year tenure at the North London club, the Frenchman has visited stadiums across the four divisions of English football.

He has enjoyed varying degrees of success at these grounds, but where has he tasted victory the most? And which ground holds the unhappiest memories?

Here are Wenger's highest and lowest win percentages at Premier League away grounds, with a minimum of 10 games required to make the list.

    20Craven Cottage | 63.6%

Arsene Wenger's favourite ground to come to was Craven Cottage. Against Fulham, Wenger had a win percentage of 63.6 per cent, winning seven of his 11 fixtures there.

Arsenal only failed to score once at Craven Cottage when they were beaten 1-0 in 2008. Their biggest win at the Cottage was a 4-0 win in March 2006 when Thierry Henry bagged a brace.

    19Ewood Park | 58.8%

Wenger also loved playing against Blackburn Rovers, winning 10 out of the 17 games he managed at Ewood Park.

The games at Ewood Park were always entertaining affairs as well, with Arsenal scoring 30 goals whilst conceding 22 against Rovers. The highest-scoring game between the two sides at the ground was a rare win for Blackburn as a Yakubu brace and two own goals helped them grab a 4-3 win over the Gunners.

    18Selhurst Park | 58.3%

Wenger has only ever lost twice at Selhurst Park, drawing three times and winning seven games.

The manager also has a great defensive record whilst playing against their London rivals, conceding only 13 goals in 12 games when playing at Crystal Palace.

  • West Ham - ArsenalGetty Images

    17Upton Park | 55%

West Ham are a team that Arsenal almost always win against, winning 13 out of their 15 encounters from 2007-2015.

At West Ham’s old ground Upton Park, Wenger won 11 out of 20 games, including a 4-0 victory in 1999.

  • Arsenal win the FA Cup | Wembley | 2014

    16Wembley | 54.5%

You have to give it to Wenger, he can win when it matters. If you combine the new and the old Wembley, Wenger has played 22 games there, winning 12, drawing three and losing seven.

Arsenal made Wembley their home for both the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 Champions League campaigns, where their win percentage took hit after winning only two of the six games that they played there as the “home” team.

Before their defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final this season, Arsenal were on a run of 10 consecutive positive results at Wembley, with nine wins and one draw to Wigan Athletic when they progressed after winning a penalty shootout.

  • Granit Xhaka, Arsenal, Adam Clayton, Middlesbrough, 041717Jan Kruger

    15Riverside Stadium | 53.3%

Arsenal recorded their biggest Premier League away win at Middlesbrough in 1999, winning 6-1 as Nicolas Anelka and Kanu recorded braces.

Wenger won eight out of 15 games that he managed at the Riverside Stadium with his Arsenal team scoring 29 times in the process.

  • Alex Iwobi Arsenal Chris Brunt West BromGetty Images

    14The Hawthorns | 53.3%

Arsenal have an exceptional record against West Brom in recent years as they won 13 out of 16 encounters with the Baggies from 2006 until 2015.

Their win percentage at the Hawthorns would have been much better but they have failed to win there in the past three years.

  • Sunderland - ArsenalSunderland - Arsenal

    13Stadium of Light | 52.9%

Arsenal have their best defensive record away at Sunderland, conceding only 10 goals in 17 games played at the Stadium of Light.

Unfortunately for Arsene Wenger most of these goals have come without reply, with the Gunners' only losses at the ground coming in games when they have failed to score.

  • Danny Welbeck Premier League Everton v Arsenal 190316Getty

    12Goodison Park | 52.9%

Arsenal equalled their record Premier League away win against Everton on the opening day of the season in 2009. A late Louis Saha goal prevented Arsenal from recording their highest away win in the Premier League as they had to settle for a 6-1 success.

Along with Anfield, Arsenal have scored more goals at Goodison Park than anywhere else, finding the back of the net 40 times in 23 visits to Everton.

    11Elland Road | 50%

A win percentage of 50% is solid away from home at any team but considering Leeds were one of the better teams in the league for the majority of these meetings it is even more impressive.

In 2002, Arsenal won 4-1 at Elland Road with Kanu grabbing a brace that day.

  • Jack Wilshere Aston Villa v Arsenal - English Premier League 01132014Getty Images

    10Villa Park | 47.8%

This isn't an astonishingly high win percentage for Wenger at this ground, but Villa were one of the better teams in the league for most of his tenure.

In 23 games at Villa Park, Wenger only lost four times to a team who consistently finished in the top eight throughout the mid-late 2000s.

  • Arsène Wenger Sam AllardyceGetty

    9Reebok Stadium | 46.7%

A 46.7% win percentage is a good record at most grounds in the league, however, Bolton Wanderers were consistently one of the smaller clubs in the top flight throughout their stay in the Premier League.

During Sam Allardyce’s tenure at Bolton, Arsenal came particularly unstuck. From 2003 to 2006, Arsenal only won one out of the seven games that they played at the Reebok in all competitions.

  • Cheik Tiote Newcastle United v Arsenal Premier League 05022011

    8St James’ Park | 45.5%

Arsene Wenger only lost three games away to Newcastle during his tenure at Arsenal.

Wenger’s last game before announcing his resignation was a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park - a ground where he usually finds success.

Although Arsenal have had a good record there in the past, one of their more unforgettable away days came against the Magpies. After being 4-0 up after 25 minutes, Arsenal eventually drew 4-4 as Newcastle completed the biggest comeback in Premier League history at their home ground.

  • Kevin De Bruyne Alexis Sanchez Manchester City ArsenalClive Brunskill

    7Etihad Stadium | 41.2%

This represents Arsenal’s best away win percentage against one of the ‘big’ clubs in the Premier League under Wenger. However, it wouldn’t be fair to City if we didn’t look at their record before and after their new owners came in.

Since September 2008, Arsenal have only won once at the Etihad in a 2-0 success in 2015. This would give them a win percentage of only 9.1% which would make it their worst ground to go to in the league in the past decade.

  • Olivier Giroud Southampton Arsenal EPL 01282014Getty Images

    6St Mary’s | 36.4%

Arsenal have played 11 times at St Mary’s, winning only four encounters there.

In one of Arsenal’s more disappointing results, they missed the chance to go top of the league on Boxing Day 2015 after a 4-0 loss to Southampton that derailed their season and allowed Leicester City to push on and become champions.

  • Arsene Wenger's most humilating defeats | Liverpool 5-1 ArsenalGetty Images

    5Anfield | 28%

Arsenal have scored more goals at Anfield and Goodison Park than anywhere else, netting 40 goals at both Merseyside venues.

Unfortunately, Arsenal have also conceded 54 goals at Anfield in only 25 games. Liverpool have scored 17 in their last five meetings at the ground, including four goals in the opening 20 minutes as they beat Arsenal 5-1 in February 2014.

  • Arsene Wenger's most humilating defeats | Chelsea 6-0 ArsenalGetty Images

    4Stamford Bridge | 26.9%

Arsene Wenger never beat Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge whilst the Portuguese was Chelsea manager.

Arsenal have had a lot of trouble at Stamford Bridge over the years but their most famous win there came in a 5-3 victory during the 2011-12 season when Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick.

Wenger's 1000th game was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but Arsenal were beaten 6-0 as Kieran Gibbs was sent off for a handball committed by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. This is Arsenal’s joint-biggest away defeat in the Premier League.

  • Arsene Wenger Manchester United Arsenal Old Trafford 2009Getty

    3Old Trafford | 26.9%

Arsenal vs Manchester United was England’s equivalent to El Clasico during the last-1990s and early 2000s and, when the fixture came to Old Trafford, it was usually United who got the better of Wenger’s men.

Old Trafford is also the venue where Arsene Wenger has managed the most away games in England.

Maybe the most famous scoreline of the decade came when Arsenal met United in August 2011 as the Gunners were brushed aside 8-2 by Sir Alex Ferguson’s team.

Wenger was sent to the stands in 2009 for kicking a water bottle after his team had a goal disallowed.

An uncharacteristic outburst from the Frenchman, Wenger didn’t know what to do after being sent to the stands so he proceeded to climb on top of the dugouts, creating an iconic image of Wenger amongst the United fans.

    2White Hart Lane | 24%

This one will hurt the most for Arsenal fans.

Wenger only won six games at White Hart Lane from the 25 matches he managed away to north London rivals Tottenham, with 12 draws and seven losses.

Wenger may have had a poor record at White Hart Lane, however, in 2004 Arsenal did clinch the league title against their closest rivals by drawing 2-2 earning not only a Premier League crown but bragging rights for the next decade.

“Can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?” is the most over-used joke in football but, when it comes to Arsene Wenger, it rings true.

This is the ground where Wenger has the worst win percentage, winning only two of the 11 meetings that have taken place there.

Wenger has lost six times and drawn three when he has made the journey to Stoke.
