  • Midfielder joined Red Dragons in 2022
  • Another coup for Reynolds & McElhenney
  • Settled quickly after early surprises
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Lee became another marquee addition for the Red Dragons during the summer of 2022, with Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney able to lure another proven Football League performer to North Wales. The 28-year-old has become a firm fan favourite at SToK Racecourse, registering 26 goals for the club through 76 appearances, but he must have wondered what he had got himself in to when pulling up for his first day with a side that was piecing together promotion plans in the National League.

    WHAT MULLIN SAID ABOUT LEE

Star striker Mullin has said in his autobiography ‘My Wrexham Story’ of the hilarious moment that a new team-mate arrived for his first training session: “When, in the first week of the 2022 pre-season, Elliot Lee arrived – a big coup for the club because the midfielder had proved himself at Championship level – nothing could have prepared him for what he saw when he turned up for his first day at training. He got out of his car to the sight of the fire brigade watering the training pitch, because we had no sprinklers. The look on his face was hilarious and the rest of us creased up laughing. We could just imagine him driving in, mind filled with images of this club on the up with its Hollywood owners, and then when he arrives he sees firemen pointing hoses at the grass. I shook his hand – ‘Welcome to Wrexham!’”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lee hit 15 goals for Wrexham last season – many of them vital efforts – as the Red Dragons claimed the National League title in record-breaking style. He has helped Phil Parkinson’s side to second spot in the League Two table this term, while also making positive progress in EFL Trophy and FA Cup competition.

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM & LEE?

There has been talk of Lee attracting interest from higher up the footballing food chain – with Wayne Rooney and Birmingham said to sit among his many admirers – but Wrexham have ambitious plans of their own, which involve reaching the Premier League at some stage, and it would take a big offer in order for Reynolds and McElhenney to consider a sale.
