The Red Devils survived a scare at Rodney Parade as late goals from Antony and Rasmus Hojlund saw them to a 4-2 victory over League Two opposition. United are now into the fifth round, where they will face either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City.

Ten Hag was in a generous mood at the final whistle against Newport and, after completing his media duties, made a point of handing over a gift to his opposite number. The luxury red wine in question was recommended by legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but it is seemingly not to the taste of those in South Wales.

Ten Hag said to Coughlan when passing over a £200 bottle of Antinori Tignanello: “We have a small gift for you.” Dublin-born Coughlan responded by saying: “Brilliant. You know I don't drink wine, I drink Budweiser.” Ten Hag tried to talk him round by adding: “Really, Budweiser? American beer? But this is a really very good one chosen by Sir Alex so maybe your wife will enjoy it. Maybe take a taste, I think you will like it. Well done for tonight.”

Newport recovered from a slow start against United to draw level two minutes into the second half, with Bryn Morris and Will Evans registering impressive strikes for the fourth tier outfit. The Red Devils found a way to get the job down and remain in contention for the only silverware still up for grabs for them this season.
