  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Los Blancos saw their defence of their La Liga title get off to a disappointing start on the opening weekend, as they were held to a surprising stalemate on the road. Brazilian forward Rodrygo had fired them in front inside 13 minutes, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side were pegged back after the break.

  • WHAT BELLINGHAM SAID

Madrid’s collection of superstars cut frustrated figures at the half-time interval, with England international Bellingham caught on camera urging those around him to sharpen up their finishing as midfield runners were being left drained at having to constantly chase into their own half. Addressing Mbappe, Vini Jr and Rodrygo simultaneously, he quipped: "You three need to finish, because the running back, it's f*cking tiring."

Mbappe responded: "That's what I'm saying, you have to finish with something!"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Those words fell on deaf ears, however, with World Cup-winner Mbappe among those to post a blank on what was his La Liga debut. Ancelotti has admitted that he is still working on how to get the best out of a fearsome attacking unit.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR REAL MADRID?

Bellingham, who hit 23 goals for Los Blancos last season, will be expected to chip in himself this term when it comes to end product. Real will be hoping to deliver more as a collective when they return to Santiago Bernabeu for a clash with Real Valladolid next Sunday.
