  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former England captain is manager of the 26ers as they take part in six-a-side competition at the UK version of Baller League. He was back on the sidelines in London for a meeting with FC RTW, with an eventful encounter ending in a 3-3 draw.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Terry felt his side did enough to claim a win, with the match officials doing the 26ers few favours. At one point, tempers boiled over following a wild challenge. The players involved squared up, leading to the benches being cleared as a mass scuffle broke out.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Clattenburg did hand out a two-minute suspension, but Terry was looking for harsher punishments and believes the officials lost control - forcing him to step in before being held back by members of his squad. Terry was caught on camera bellowing at Clattenburg: “There’s no f*cking point, I’ve got to do your job for you.”

  • WHAT JOHN TERRY SAID

Terry told Sky Sports afterwards: “For me, the refs are awful. The refs are terrible, they need to take some responsibility because two of my players are trying to break up fights on the pitch after diabolical tackles. I don’t want to be that person coming on… the players have got to do better but the refs have got to take responsibility.

“We were 2-0 up, cruising and then there are a few fouls which are getting out of hand and it gets messy, they got a goal and then there are tensions. I’ve not slept the last week. It’s frustrating, especially when the players have done so well for the majority of the game.”

  • WHAT NEXT?

The 26ers remain winless through three Baller League UK fixtures, with just one point picked up so far. Terry will be hoping to inspire a reversal in fortune, with the potential still there for him to draft in some iconic former team-mates as wildcard picks.
