  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The midfielder started in Tottenham's 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt last Thursday but had to be subbed off after he suffered a knee injury. Dominic Solanke joined Maddison on the treatment table and the duo were left out of the Spurs squad for their Premier League clash against West Ham on Sunday.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to The Athletic, Maddison has suspected ligament damage in his knee and will miss Tottenham's final handful of games in the 2024-25 season, including a potential Europa League final. He is the latest casualty in what has been a campaign ravaged by injury for Ange Postecoglou's squad.

  • WHAT ANGE POSTECOGLOU SAID

Manager Postecoglou had previously given an optimistic update on Maddison and team-mate Solanke, saying: "We're pretty hopeful with Dom that it will be OK, he’s improving every day but it made no sense to bring him on today. Maddison's a bit more of a concern until we get some more information but he’s the one that’s more of a concern."

    WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?

Spurs will be hoping to qualify for the Europa League final after a healthy first-leg win over Bodo/Glimt but Maddison will be missed, having entered a decent run of form. Tottenham could take on Manchester United in the final as the Red Devils hold a 3-0 lead going into the second leg of their semi-final tie against Athletic Club at Old Trafford.
