Sky Sports review: Pricing, plans, subscriptions, and more

When you think of Sky Sports, you instantly associate it with football. Specifically the Premier League, where the 2024-25 season kicked off at a blistering pace, with what looks like a two-horse race already underway between Arsenal and Liverpool, as English football shapes up for one of its most nail-biting conclusions yet. So what better way to enjoy the thrills and spills of the Premier League than with the service that offers the most live games?

That said, Sky Sports is not purely about football. While, yes, the Premier League is one of its most valued and favoured assets, the broadcaster is also the home to a number of other major sporting events, including cricket, rugby, Formula 1, golf, darts, athletics, boxing, tennis, NFL, and more.

Golf: With broadcasting rights to the Ruder Cup, DP World Tour, as well as the PGA and LPGA Tours, Sky’s access to the golf course is second to none; providing extensive coverage, highlights and analysis for all major tournaments.

NFL: While ITV1 also offers annual Super Bowl coverage, Sky Sports NFL gives viewers the most comprehensive and complete package on the UK market all year round, with live games, highlights and analysis shows throughout the week.

Premier League football: As previously mentioned, their domestic football coverage is unrivalled. Some of the biggest clashes over the season, seeing the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United battles one another, take place each week with matches shown live during weeknights and at weekends, including their famous Super Sunday that usually shows two games in an afternoon.

Formula One: Sky has a dedicated channel to all things F1, with various Grand Prix events taking place throughout the year. Sky Sports F1 has the exclusive rights to broadcast full coverage of the entire event, from qualifying laps to the actual race itself, so is perfect for the speed enthusiasts out there.

    Cons

✘ Some of the bigger subscriptions and TV packages can be on the pricey side

✘ You only tend to get it cheaper if you commit to a longer period of time

✘ Coverage will often heavily focus on football (Premier League, EFL) rather than other available sports

✘ No longer has the rights to European football (Champions, Europa, Conference leagues)

✘ Some major events, such as boxing, are only available via the pay-per-view option on Sky Box Office, meaning you’ll have to pay a premium of £24.95 or wait for highlights on Sky Sports News

    Is Sky Sports worth it?

The short answer, if you enjoy Premier League football, is absolutely. There are enough live football matches airing all season long to justify the cost and commitment to fans. It provides comprehensive coverage of F1 too, as well as a sprinkling of other sports to give customers plenty of choice throughout the year. While some may find it to be on the pricey side, compared to the likes of TNT and Amazon’s occasional coverage, it’s the only place where you can watch a majority of the season’s football. With the 6-Month Saver Membership offering the lot for just £26 a month, in the grand scheme of things that isn’t too expensive for the hours of content you can access on a daily basis.
