    WHAT HAPPENED?

Having now trained fully with his teammates, Allan Saint-Maximin is eagerly awaiting his long-anticipated debut for América, a club he’s already beginning to understand as one of Mexico’s football giants.

“I’ve always wanted to play for the biggest teams, and for me, this is the biggest team in Mexico. I’m not surprised to be here. Now it’s time to show my qualities and do everything I can to fight for my team,” the winger told Claro Sports.

The former Newcastle man made it clear that his main goal is to win silverware with Las Águilas.

“I came here to win. I’ve never won anything in my career, and my main goal is not to let my teammates down. This is the biggest club in Mexico, so I hope we can win every title possible,” said the French forward.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Frenchman has faced criticism from both fans and the media in Mexico, with many questioning what he can bring to América.

“The message I want to give to the fans is that they haven’t seen the best version of me yet," he said. "I’m going to do everything for them, so they can see the best version of Maxi in Mexico.”

He also stated that his aim is “to be the best possible player for the team.”

Despite videos circulating of him showing sharp form in training, Saint-Maximin is expected to miss this weekend’s clash with Tigres - though his debut hasn't been completely ruled out. América remain unbeaten in the Apertura 2025 with two wins and two draws.

    WHAT ALLAN SAINT-MAXIMIN SAID

Known affectionately as “Maxi,” the 28-year-old also explained why he chose América over continuing in Europe.

“I had many offers from European teams. But I prefer to be at a club that truly wants me, a family-oriented club willing to do everything possible to put me in the best conditions," he said. "A healthy club, with good people who care about my family’s needs. My priority is my family."
