  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Camavinga, with the French international expected to make a decision on his future at the end of the current season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Camavinga is perhaps experiencing his most challenging season at Real Madrid yet. With Toni Kroos gone, Aurelien Tchouameni shuffling between defence and midfield, and the injury to Dani Ceballos last month, the 22-year-old was expected to become a crucial cog in Ancelotti's midfield. However, relentless struggles with fitness (he has missed 18 games this season) and an inability to produce convincing performances have given Ancelotti quite the headache.

While the higher-ups at Madrid do not doubt Camavinga's potential, they are concerned about his lack of development, given that he hasn't taken a huge leap during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

City are looking to capitalise on Real Madrid's disappointment with Camavinga. The club has a strong relationship with CAA Stellar, his agency, which also helped facilitate Omar Marmoush's January move from Eintracht Frankfurt. Camavinga is reportedly on City’s radar for the summer, though the French midfielder has yet to decide if he wants to leave Real Madrid, with whom he is contracted until June 2029. If he does, it's claimed that 'many clubs' would be interested in signing him.

    WHAT NEXT FOR EDUARDO CAMAVINGA?

Given Madrid's dearth in midfield at the moment, Camavinga will likely be one of the first players to come off the bench, provided he doesn't start, when Real Madrid visit Atletico Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday. The French star will be hoping to play a bigger role for the remainder of the season, with Real looking to win three trophies.
