'If we are in the Conference' - Pep Guardiola makes vow to stay at Man City even if club are relegated from Premier League over alleged breaches of financial regulations

Since joining Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has helped the team win 18 trophies, including their first Champions League and six Premier League crowns. However, City are currently involved in a hearing on alleged violations of the league's financial fair play regulations, which, if proven true, could result in point penalties, a fine, and potentially relegation. Guardiola has always supported City, claiming to have faith in the club's owners.

After months of rumours that Guardiola may leave City when his previous contract expired at the end of the current campaign, the club confirmed his two-year extension on Thursday. Guardiola also revealed that he will stay put at City regardless of what the future holds for the eight-time Premier League champions.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Guardiola said: "I said six months ago, when all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong, [and was asked] what happened if we are relegated. I will be here.

"Next year, if we are in the Conference we will come up to the Premier League. I knew it then and I feel it now.

"I signed a two-year contract... for the weather! I don't want next season in September, October or November for it to be all about, "It's the last year of Pep'. I don't want to be in that position.

"I would like to stay for the two years but I know if the results are not good it will not be two years."

The defending Premier League champions are on a four-game losing streak and they will look to break their duck when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
