Pep Guardiola cites his Barcelona record as Man City boss explains why he has no advice for misfiring Erling Haaland after frustrating display in Chelsea draw

It was not Haland's night at Etihad as the striker spurned two golden opportunities, what should have been bread and butter for him on another day. His wastefulness could have cost City dearly but Rodri popped up in the 83rd minute to score the equaliser and salvage at least a point for the hosts against a determined and gritty Chelsea side - who had their nose in front thanks to a Raheem Sterling strike in the first half.

However, there was no dearth of trying as Haaland rifled in 10 shots but only two of them meekly tested Chelsea keeper Dorde Petrovic. Nonetheless, Guardiola was in no mood to throw his striker under the bus and bizarrely brought up the goal-scoring stats from his playing career to defend Haaland.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said: "I played 11 years and scored 11 goals so I can't give too much advice to Erling. The next one he will score. In the first half we didn't perform well and that's what we have to improve."

Guardiola played as a defensive midfielder back in the day and scored 11 goals during his stint in Barcelona which lasted 11 years. Overall in his career, he had netted 20 times in 484 appearances that spanned nearly 16 years.

City have three more games in February and Guardiola would hope that Haaland will get back to scoring as soon as possible. Their next fixture is against Brentford on Tuesday which will be followed by a trip to Bournemouth on February 24. They will end this month with an FA Cup fifth-round fixture against Luton three days later.
