  • WHAT HAPPENED?

In an interview with Sport1, Forster, who played for Stuttgart between 1977 and 1986 and won the European Championship with West Germany, opined that keeping Woltemade at the club would be counterproductive as he would lack motivation and ultimately underperform. As a result, he has urged them to sell.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Woltemade scored 17 goals in all competitions for Stuttgart last season, while he scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists for Germany in the recently concluded U-21 Euro championship. This has prompted Bayern to agree personal terms with the player. However, Stuttgart director Fabian Wohlgemuth has rejected Bayern's approach, saying he is not for sale.

  • WHAT FORSTER SAID

Forster addressed the transfer negotiations when he said: "Everything I'm reading now points to only one solution: Woltemade will leave. The clubs will come to an agreement. You can't keep a player who absolutely wants to leave. He'll lack motivation, and he won't perform consistently because his mind is already elsewhere. Woltemade will leave VfB as sorry as I am for the VfB fans."

When asked if it will be the right move for Woltemade personally he said: "I  would have liked to see Woltemade stay at VfB. He came on a free transfer from Werder Bremen, but back then he wasn't as good as he became under Sebastian Hoeneß. Woltemade should stay at VfB for another year; that would be good for his development. He could further establish himself. I'm skeptical whether this (transfer) is the right step."
