  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Egyptian is having an incredible season and his goal and assist in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa put him in illustrious company, as Salah became the first player since Messi to score and assist in 10 separate matches in one season in one of Europe's top five leagues. This record was set when Messi, Suarez and Neymar were firing on all cylinders as one of the most lethal front threes in football history, a sign of the company Salah's now keeping.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to stats gurus OptaJoe, Messi scored and assisted in 11 games that season, a record that you could easily see Salah breaking. So far the Liverpool forward has a whopping 24 goals and 15 assists in 26 Premier League games, plus three goals and four assists in seven Champions League appearances this term. In terms of attacking numbers, he's enjoying one of the most outstanding campaigns of the Premier League era.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

This isn't the only record Salah broke in the game against Villa; his 29th of the season in all competitions was also his 15th goal away from home, the most a Liverpool player has scored away from home in a single Premier League season. Previously, Luis Suarez had the record with 14 away goals in the 2013/14 season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SALAH?

Given his consistently outstanding performances this season, it seems remarkable that Salah could be leaving Liverpool in the summer. He's out of contract at the end of 2024/25 but Slot and the rest of the Liverpool hierarchy will surely do everything they can to keep him on the books beyond June. That being said, there's a chance he could sign off with a Premier League title, a Champions League win, and a raft of individual records broken — there's no better way to go than that.
