Arteta has given his opinion, too, claiming that the prospect of fewer fixtures for the Gunners would be a positive, although it seemingly ignores lower-league concerns of minnows being robbed of the chance of playing at the Emirates, particularly if Arsenal are drawn away in the third round against an EFL, or even a non-league, club.

  • WHAT ARTETA SAID

Arteta told reporters: "We can’t look at that in an isolated way, but with the calendar that we have with the players. I think it’s a very good possibility."

    WHAT NEXT?

Arsenal are next in action on Saturday against Wolves and will hope to ratchet up the pressure on current leaders Manchester City, who are in FA Cup action against Chelsea in this weekend's semi-final. As a result, if the Gunners win, they could end the weekend top.
