Manchester United eyeing Flamengo wonderkid Wesley ahead of summer transfer window but Brazilian club set intimidating asking price for Brazilian full-back

The full-back is considered hot property and has taken United's interest ahead of a potential summer transfer, according to reports in Brazil. Any deal is likely to take place after the Club World Cup, which Flamengo are in and want to keep their best players for.

United are aiming to restructure their transfer operations under new minority owners INEOS, who are said to want to focus on young gems from all over the world rather than signing established players for big fees. Wesley would fit that description.

Flamengo have already rejected a bid worth over £20 million ($25m) from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg for Wesley, believing the player will increase his value during this summer's competition. The full-back was also reluctant to play Russian football.

A January move for Wesley was never likely for Man United, who were limited by PSR restrictions and could miss out on European football altogether this season. The Brazilian is likely to stay with Flamengo for as long as they remain in the Club World Cup and then consider his options.
