  • United thrashed at home by Bournemouth
  • Ripped to shreds by former star Owen
  • Up against Bayern and Liverpool next
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

United put in a disastrous performance at Old Trafford as Dominic Solanke opened the scoring after just five minutes before Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi compounded the home team's misery in the second half. The result will only fuel further criticism of Ten Hag and his team and Owen has expressed his dismay.

    WHAT OWEN SAID

He wrote on social media: "I just can’t see any positives for [United] at present. Knocked out of the cup, about to go out of the Champions League at the group stage, no chance of winning the league, average signings, shocking performances, manager falling out with players, no identity on the pitch, poor team selections….. Things need to change as this team is going nowhere. Oh, and up next is Bayern Munich followed by a trip to Anfield."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

After United lifted their spirits with a 2-1 win against Chelsea in midweek, the catastrophic loss to Bournemouth shows the extent of United's inconsistency this season. They have won two of their last five matches - against Everton and Chelsea - in all competitions, having also lost to Newcastle and drawn with Galatasaray. With big games against Bayern Munich and Liverpool - a game they will be without captain Bruno Fernandes for - they are in for another tough week.

    WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?

United need to beat Bayern Munich and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw if they are to go through to the next round of the Champions League. While fans will not feel confident after their latest upset, their hopes may be given a slight boost after seeing Bayern suffer a 5-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
