From a promoted club desperate to prove they belong in the Premier League to sleeping giants determined to wake from their slumbers, some big sums have once again been spent over the off-season.
Whether that money will guarantee success, however, only time will tell.

Key transfers: Joelinton (£41m from Hoffenheim), Allan Saint-Maximin (£16.5m from Nice), Emil Krafth (£4.5m from Amiens)
Despite Rafa Benitez seemingly leaving due to Newcastle's transfer stubbornness, the club did splash the cash after his departure with two exciting, young attackers in the form of Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin brought in for large sums.

Key transfers: Sebastien Haller (£36m from Eintracht Frankfurt), Pablo Fornals (£25m from Villarreal), Albian Ajeti (£7m from Basel), Goncalo Cardoso (£3m from Boavista)
With the departure of Marko Arnautovic to China, the Hammers have looked to emphatically fill his shoes by paying a large fee to land Sebastien Haller, who was in electric form in the Bundesliga last season. Pablo Fornals has also been brought to the club for a tidy sum and could give West Ham's attack a unique dimension.

Key transfers: Raul Jimenez (£35m from Benfica), Pedro Neto (£17m from Lazio), Patrick Cutrone (£17m from AC Milan), Leander Dendoncker (£12m from Anderlecht)
On the cusp of playing in the Europa League after a brilliant first season back in the top flight, Wolves haven't looked back over the summer and spent big. Raul Jimenez proved his quality on loan last season, while the arrivals of Pedro Neto and Patrick Cutrone from Italy could make them even more exciting in attack.

Brendan Rodgers has been allowed to spend some solid coin over the summer as he sealed the permanent return of Monaco young gun Youri Tielemans while also adding Ayoze Perez to the Foxes frontline. The addition of Dennis Praet in midfield is also a tidy pick-up. After receiving £80 million for Harry Maguire, it's been a financially balanced window.

Spurs finally broke their transfer drought this summer and in some fashion too by signing Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke on the same day. Ndombele is the club's new record signing but appears to be a player the club desperately needed and might just take Mauricio Pochettino one step closer to silverware. The addition of Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso on deadline day rounded out Spurs' squad nicely and gives them some much-needed depth.

The Toffees haven't held back this summer and pulled off one of the best signings in the form Moise Kean. While still developing, the former Juventus striker could prove a bargain buy if he can shine in England. Alex Iwobi was also brought in on deadline day to further strengthen their frontline. Behind them, Everton's midfield has been bolstered by Andre Gomes' return and Jean-Philippe Gbamin will be out to impress after turning heads in France.

Pep Guardiola's side have quietly but effectively gone about their business over the summer as they spent big to land Rodri and Cancelo - players that only further strengthen the reigning Premier League winners.
Aston Villa FCMoney Spent: £136m ($165m)
Key transfers: Wesley (£22m from Club Brugge), Tyrone Mings (£20m from Bournemouth), Douglas Luiz (£15m from Manchester City), Tom Heaton (£7m from Burnley)
Aston Villa aren't messing around on their return to the top flight and have spent a massive amount to ensure they are ready for a season in the Premier League. Unlike Fulham, who also spent big last season, Dean Smith's side have invested relatively smartly with their big gamble coming in the form of new Brazilian striker Wesley.

Breaking their transfer record to sign Nicolas Pepe, Arsenal will be hoping the investment pays off in the final third, with key reinforcements also brought in at the back. Dani Ceballos meanwhile is a quality addition to the Gunners midfield and a great piece of business.
Manchester UnitedMoney Spent: £140m ($170m)
Key transfers: Harry Maguire (£80m from Leicester City), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£45m from Crystal Palace), Daniel James (£15m from Swansea)
Having missed out on a place in the Champions League this season, Manchester United are desperate to reclaim their place in the Premier League's top four and have invested heavily in what's become a problematic defence in recent years. With the world's most expensive defender now in their backline, the Red Devils simply have to improve upon seasons gone by.
