Pep Guardiola’s side are reigning Premier League champions, and completed a stunning Treble 18 months ago, but have hit an uncharacteristic wobble over recent weeks. City have suffered five successive defeats across all competitions – the worst run of their highly-decorated manager’s career.

A new low was hit when suffering a 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham, with Guardiola cutting a frustrated figure on the sidelines as Erling Haaland and Co failed to find a spark at the Etihad Stadium. A rare sequence of losses is giving City’s rivals hope in the 2024-25 title race.

Arch rivals United are not in that picture at present, but those with strong ties to Old Trafford are taking great delight in seeing City struggle. Kai Rooney, as the son of the Red Devils’ all-time leading goalscorer and a current star of their academy system, falls into that category.

Rooney, who recently celebrated his 15th birthday, has posted an image on social media that shows him tuning in to City’s clash with Spurs. With the clock ticking down in that contest, as the scoreboard reads 0-4 and Guardiola sports a furrowed brow, Kai added a couple of laughing emojis to his post.

City have allowed Liverpool to open up a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League table, giving them work to do in pursuit of a fifth successive crown. United, meanwhile, are opening what they hope will be a productive new era under Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim.
