  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bellingham is expected to be out until mid-September after suffering a muscular injury in his right leg in Real Madrid training this week. It is not the start to the 2024-25 season that the England midfielder hoped for, and he made his feelings clear when he admitted to being "very frustrated" in an Instagram post after the setback.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bellingham's schedule in 2024 has been busier than most of his peers', having reached the Champions League and European Championship finals with Real Madrid and England respectively. The 21-year-old was afforded an extended break after the international tournament in Germany but he admitted in his Instagram post that his body might need even more rest before he is ready for the season.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Alaba is also sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The defender suffered the injury in December and has been through the lonely and demanding rehabilitation process since undergoing surgery. The 32-year-old was likely pleased to have Bellingham join him for a gym session this weekend.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?

The 21-year-old's absence is also a blow for England and interim boss Lee Carsley; he's set to miss next month's Nations League encounters against the Republic of Ireland and Finland. Bellingham will be a keen observer as Real Madrid take on Real Valladolid in La Liga on Sunday afternoon.
