Fans were quick to criticise Carragher on X after the former Liverpool defender appeared to cross the line in an exchange with CBS Sports presenter Abdo. After the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between Arsenal and FC Porto, Carragher could be seen wearing an Arsenal jersey on the sidelines of the Emirates Stadium while analysing the game on CBS. While speaking on live TV, the ex-England international said first, while pointing at fellow pundit Thierry Henry and then to Abdo: "You are wearing (an Arsenal shirt) next (pointing at Henry), for the last part you are going to wear it." The presenter replied: "I am not. I am loyal." Carragher then asked, "To whom?".
Abdo then said: "Manchester United, thank you very much."
Carragher then sparked controversy as he said: "Not to Malik." He started laughing after the joke, while Henry and co-pundit Micah Richards were stunned into silence, before a visibly annoyed Abdo replied: "Why would you even say that?"
