The Premier League giants are preparing to get their FIFA Club World Cup campaign underway. Pep Guardiola’s side will have a few days acclimatising to conditions in the United States before facing Wydad AC on Wednesday.

Norwegian frontman Haaland, on the back of a 2024-25 campaign that delivered another 31 goals, is set to figure prominently for City as they attempt to make history by becoming the first team to win the expanded 32-team Club World Cup crown.

While Haaland has an important role to play in Guardiola’s plans, England international Grealish has been left at home. The 29-year-old playmaker was omitted from the City squad that has more major silverware in its sights.

Haaland is disappointed not to have a regular travelling companion by his side, with the 24-year-old posting a sad picture of the empty seats next to him on the plane as City jetted across the Atlantic.

With Grealish being overlooked by Guardiola, as more money is invested during the summer transfer window of 2025, the expectation is that the £100 million ($135m) winger will be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium before another recruitment deadline is reached.
