Explained: Why Lewis Hall is able to play for Newcastle against parent club Chelsea in the Carabao Cup

The 19-year-old, who secured a season-long loan move from Chelsea to Newcastle United in the summer, will feature in the Magpies' matchday squad for their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against the Blues on Tuesday.

Hall was ineligible to play against his parent club last month in the Premier League where Eddie Howe's side humbled Chelsea 4-1 at St. James' Park but he will be able to take the field in Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie after Newcastle received special dispensation, according to The Standard.

Hall graduated from the Blues' youth system in 2021 and made his professional debut for the club in January 2022 against Chesterfield in a third-round FA Cup fixture. Ahead of heading to Newcastle, the full-back appeared in 14 matches for Chelsea across all competitions last season.

In the ongoing campaign, he has featured in seven matches for Howe's team and has scored once.

After facing Pochettino's men in the Carabao Cup, Newcastle are set to take on Luton Town away from home in the Premier League on Saturday.
