    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The English midfielder played 13 matches for his new club during the 2021-22 season and was then sent on loan to Besiktas. He returned to his parent club in April 2023 but is yet to feature in a match in the current campaign owing to a thigh problem that forced him to undergo surgery. Recently Spurs made an offer to change the terms of the agreement by reducing the fee to £8m in exchange for decreasing the number of minimum appearances from 20, which Everton have rejected.

The 27-year-old last played a competitive match nine months ago which was for Besiktas against Antalyaspor on February 26. His loan spell in Turkey turned out to be a nightmare as he scored just thrice in 17 appearances for the club.
